Meet our designer: Jair Straschnow

Jair Straschnow is a designer from Israel. He acquired a bachelor’s degree in technological education in design studies at the Tel Aviv University in 1995. Later, he did his post-graduate studies at the applied arts department of the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam (1991-2001). Straschnow’s work has been shown internationally and has been featured in numerous publications and magazines.

The established designer currently lives in Amsterdam. Occasionally he gives workshops or lectures, but he is mostly busy working in his studio. Jaïr has a great passion for creating smart, ingenious products. When a product can solve an everyday problem and it can also be reduced to the minimal, Jaïr is delighted. ‘I believe in the power of minimalism. A minimalist product is more pleasant and peaceful for both people and the environment.' 


This is well reflected in the design of the Bended Series that Jaïr designed for Weltevree. This aluminum garden furniture set consists of a table with several matching benches and chairs made by bending aluminum sheets at a 45-degree angle. This creates a flexible yet sturdy structure that adapts to the surface on which it stands. In short, the Bended Series will never wobble.

Half table, double the possibilities 

When it comes to minimalism and functionalism, as far as Straschnow is concerned, the classic picnic table is the perfect combination of the two, and thus an endless source of inspiration. 'I have an obsession with picnic tables. The classic design is the perfect example of reducing a product to the bare minimum. It's a design that makes me go: why didn't I come up with that myself?’ Despite the classic picnic table being so iconic to Straschnow, it is still often perceived as immobile and limited in use. Emerging from his obsession and unrest with the design of the picnic table, he designed the Tablebench and the Folding Picnic. Both products are the cumulative result of his earlier implementations of this idea and show how to do more with less: both tables not only save half the space, but double the possibilities. 'Space is a commodity, and it is scarce and expensive: you pay per m2. That led me to designs that combine space saving with function. If a product can successfully perform multiple functions, it has more reason to exist.' 


With the open table top on one side, you can play with different setups - place the tables against the wall, combine them with chairs or join two tables together: the Tablebench and Folding Picnic are multifunctional pieces of furniture applicable in endless settings. In addition, both tables have a curved tabletop on one side, which also serves as a backrest. So you can dine, work and relax at the same table. 

The deluxe folding table 

The Folding Picnic also has an additional function. As the name suggests, the table is foldable, making it mobile and easy to move. Whether in the front yard, in the backyard, inside, at the campsite, in the sun or in the shade, the Folding Picnic is a table to move around. Thanks to the clever folding mechanism, you easily fold the table and carry it to your favorite spot with the handle at the bottom of the table top.

With these two striking designs, Straschnow has actually managed to translate the iconic picnic table into not one, but even two original products, each more versatile and functional than the original in its own way. BENDED LOUNGER
The Bended Lounger garden chair is part of the cozy Bended Series. The garden chair forms a sturdy design thanks to the plates, which are bent in 45 degrees. In addition, both sides are reinforced with steel. Because the Bended Lounger is made of light aluminum, it is easily movable. The garden chair adapts flexibly to any surface and does not wobble. The chair can be used indoors and outdoors and comes with a Bended Cushion of 55x55 cm.  Place the chair in a sunny spot or close to the outdoor oven and prolong being outdoors. Use the Bended Lounger in combination with our Bended Stool or other products from the Bended Series, to create a cozy seating area in your garden or on the balcony. Take a moment for yourself in your seating area with a good book and a cup of tea or enjoy a cozy evening of drinks with friends or family.   The Bended Series products, designed by Jaïr Straschnow, are made of 3mm aluminum, which is 100% recyclable. Because the Bended products feature a powder-coated finish, they require little maintenance. You easily clean the products with a soft cloth and water. BENDED TABLE
A lightweight outdoor table with smart aluminum design, that's the Bended Table! The Bended Table is part of the Bended Series and fits any garden. The aluminum plates are bent at 45 degrees, creating a strong and flexible construction that allows the table to adapt to any surface. This ensures that the table never wobbles and is easy to move. The table is available in three lengths; 90cm, 180cm or 270cm. With the 270cm, the construction is reinforced with steel. FOLDING PICNIC TABLE
The classic picnic table is a never ending source of inspiration for designer Jaïr Straschnow. After the iconic Tablebench he has come up with yet another inventive, space-saving and playful design: the Folding Picnic. The name says it all: a mobile, foldable picnic table that allows you to have a picnic, work or relax wherever you want, whenever you want. Whether it’s in the front yard, the backyard, inside, in the sun or in the shade, the Folding Picnic is a table to go. With the clever handle at the bottom of the table, the Folding Picnic is easy to move between different spots in and around the house. The folding mechanism allows you to effortlessly collapse the picnic table and store it away when not in use. Perfect for smaller gardens or balconies. The space-saving design is not only mobile, but also multifunctional. The bended edge of the table top serves as a comfortable backrest when facing away from the table. Use the Folding Picnic as a table, or lean your back against the bended edge and use it as a bench. The deep table top allows for flexibility and variation in seating arrangement. By adding chairs on the opposite side of the table, the Folding Picnic provides space for up to four people.
