An irrepressible desire
We often talk about 'outdoor living': something we at Weltevree see as a way of life, a goal in itself, but what do we really mean by that? What is 'outdoor living' and how do you do it?
According to the dictionary, outdoor living is “life outside the city in nature, usually so called by the city dweller who stays there for pleasure ‘ or ’life in the countryside”. In the vernacular, it is understood as “enjoying nature” or “spending time in nature. Pretty vague and trivial definitions.
We prefer to define the outdoors as an irrepressible urge to be outside, to surround yourself with nature as much and as often as possible. Understanding that as human beings we are not meant to spend the bulk of our time inside every day, but rather to be outside to connect with the fresh air, the morning mist, the sunset. We have strayed from our own nature by keeping ourselves in indoor spaces. We live, work, exercise, travel and meet almost exclusively indoors. Because of this development, the outdoor space is no longer a place to live, but only a place to move from A to B, a gateway you have to pass through to get back inside.
This is especially the case in autumn and winter, seasons when the cold and dark make us rush inside even faster. But this is not how humans are meant to be. This is why at Weltevree we believe that the outdoor season does not exist: after all, it lasts all year. The cold or bad weather is never a reason to stay inside.
One place that shares this philosophy with us is Cuber Suites: a selection of three lodgings in the middle of the Veluwe with the aim of letting people experience nature to the fullest. Each cabin is hidden in the middle of nature and has one side made entirely of glass, so that outside and inside are connected at all times-and so are you.
